By joining Worldsmiths, you agree to the following terms:
Worldsmiths is for serious writers only.
Members are expected to critique the work of other members, and to submit their own work for critique, on a regular basis as defined by current Worldsmiths
policy. The purpose of Worldsmiths is to help speculative fiction writers become better writers--hopefully published or produced writers. This can only be
done if everyone writes and critiques regularly.
We are here to learn how to become better writers.
Neophytes ask other people to read their work so they can be told how wonderful it is. That is not what Worldsmiths is for. We are here to learn how to get
better, not be praised for already being great writers (even if we are already great writers). That means we must expect blunt criticism in the
critiques we receive. When a writer receives a critique, he may ask questions for clarification, but he is not allowed to argue with the critique. The
reader is only reporting his experience as a reader. There can be no argument against that--his experience is his experience.
A writer is not allowed to explain what he meant to do in his writing as a rebuttal to a critique. The work must speak for itself. An author can't go
around to every reader of his published book explaining what he meant. It has to be on the page.
This does not mean a writer had to accept everything a critique says. When it comes time to rewrite, the author is free to do whatever he wants with
the criticsm he receives.
Critiques must be mature and constructive.
No name calling. No personal attacks. No blatant negativity. The purpose of a critique is to help a writer become a better writer--not to crush his
feelings of self-worth. Only constructive criticism of the work itself is allowed in a critique.
Manuscripts are for critiquing only.
When you receive the manuscript of an author through Worldsiths, your only authorized use for that manuscript is to critique it. The author maintains
copyright of the manuscript. It is a violation of Worldsmiths policy and illegal to pass around a manuscript to others or use it for any other
purpose than to offer a critique to the author. We will cooperate in the investigation and prosecution of any violations of copyright law.
Personal information and photographs of other Worldsmiths members are private.
Worldsmiths members are not authorized to download photographs of other members or take personal information of other members and use them in any way
without permission from the owner.
Violation of policy.
Worldsmiths reserves the right to suspend or cancel the membership of any member who violates Worldsmiths policy. Reinstatement of membership is handled on
a case-by-case basis. Worldsmiths will cooperate with the investigation and prosecution of any violation of laws.
The Worldsmiths website and service is provided as is without warranty of any kind.
All risks are the responsibility of Worldsmiths members themselves.
